First-time visitors to the Island are generally surprised to
discover that Marthas Vineyard is larger in size than they
anticipated. A good map will allow you to make the best use of your
time on the Island, as well as make your visit more enjoyable. We have
a variety of town and road maps, bus and bike routes, guide to
beaches, and walking tours of the Island here for viewing or print
them out for reference.
Its relatively easy to get around the Island without a
car. The Vineyard Transit Authority
--VTA-- offers island-wide transit as well as seasonal shuttle service. Routes cover all of the
Islands main towns and roads, and stop regularly at the
steamship and airport terminals. Purchase either daily, weekly, or
monthly passes, or just hop on for a single ride.
Biking is one of the best ways to see the Island. There are
over 50 miles of bicycle paths on the Vineyard -- most run adjacent to
main streets, around the State Forest, or along the water. Bring your
own or rent bikes from one of the many bicycle shops.
And if you prefer to see the Island at a slower pace, we have
walking tours and maps of three of the Islands towns as well as
a road map of the western end of the Island. In addition to providing
a handy street map, these maps guide you to historical sites, parks,
churches, and popular visitor attractions.
Now you can map out your plan for exploring the Island...
